Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital makes cutting-edge da Vinci Xi surgical system available to patients in London and the South

Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon, London, has made available the da Vinci Xi surgical system, a leading robotic-assisted surgical system that enables consultant surgeons to perform with greater precision, to patients across London and the South.

More than 12 million procedures have been performed with Da Vinci surgical systems on patients worldwide, and there are more than 34,000 independent studies that suggest robotic-assisted surgery with a da Vinci Surgical System can offer patients demonstrated benefits compared with open surgery. These can include reduced blood loss; reduced risk of infection; fewer complications; reduced length of stay, and reduced chance of readmission to hospital.

The da Vinci Xi Surgical System works by giving consultant surgeons an advanced set of instruments to use in performing robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. It enables the consultant surgeon to view a patient’s anatomy using a highly magnified, 3D high-definition view of the surgical area and magnifies 10 times to what the human eye sees. This provides the consultant surgeon with a crystal-clear view when operating on delicate tissues and organs. This is also displayed to the entire operating theatre using the vision cart.

The consultant surgeon controls the da Vinci Xi Surgical System through the surgeon console. During a procedure, the da Vinci Xi Surgical System translates the surgeon’s hand movements in real time, bending and rotating the instruments while performing the procedure. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System’s instruments are designed with full-wristed dexterity to enable advanced surgical precision with the tiny instruments moving like a human hand, but with a greater range of motion, so fewer incisions are needed in surgeries.
