NHS patients

As part of the NHS Patient Choice scheme, you may now be able to have your NHS treatment at Parkside Hospital.

What is Patient Choice?

Patient Choice is a government initiative introduced to give NHS patients more choice about where and when they are treated. It means that NHS patients in England who require hospital treatment will be offered a choice of hospitals or clinics for their treatment (including participating private hospitals) by their GP and one of the options could be Parkside Hospital. Further information on Patient Choice can be found on the NHS website.

Can I choose Parkside for my NHS treatment?

Yes. However, not all of the services and treatments offered at Parkside Hospital are available as part of the Patient Choice scheme, only selected specialties. Also the number of appointments allocated to the scheme is limited, so we may not always have availability. To find out if you can have your NHS treatment at Parkside Hospital, simply ask your GP.

Booking an appointment

Once you have chosen Parkside Hospital for your treatment, it is likely that your GP or other practice staff will book your appointment while you are still at the surgery.

The current NHS guidelines are 18 weeks from seeing your GP to receiving hospital treatment. If you would like to have your consultation or treatment sooner than this, then you may wish to consider coming as a private patient instead. Please find details at the bottom of the page.

Once your NHS appointment has been booked with us, you will receive a letter from Parkside Hospital confirming the details of your appointment and any instructions you may need to follow in preparation of your appointment. A copy of this letter will also be sent to your GP to go into your medical records.

Pharmacy

As a provider of NHS services, Parkside Hospital will mirror the medicines usage at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust. Please click here for more information.

Paying for treatment

The full cost of your treatment will be covered by the NHS. You may need to pay for personal items such as newspapers, meals for your visitors or telephone calls that you’ve requested during your stay, just as you would in an NHS hospital. These should be paid when you’re discharged from Parkside Hospital.
