Unveiling of sculpture of Marie Sklodowka Curie

A bronze bust of Marie Sklodowka Curie was unveiled at the Cancer Centre London by Minister Dariusz Laska, acting Polish Ambassador to the UK on Monday 26thMarch 2012. The sculpture has been kindly given to the centre by the Polish Heritage Society with the support of the Polish Cultural Institute to mark the centenary of Mme Curie being awarded her second Nobel prize.

Professor Trevor Powles, Medical Director said, “We are greatly honoured that the Polish Heritage Society has chosen our Cancer Centre for this sculpture of Marie Curie.”

The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Merton and his wife, Cllr and Mrs Chris Edge, members of the Polish Heritage Society & Polish Cultural Institute, Aspen Healthcare CEO Des Shiels, as well as staff and consultants from the Cancer Centre London. Guests were delighted that Polish sculptor, Tomasz Maciej Danilewicz made his first visit to London from his home in the United States to attend the ceremony.

After the unveiling guests made the most of the sunshine and enjoyed a reception including Polish canapés.
