Bike Week 9-17 June

Saturday 9th to Sunday 17th June 2018 is Bike Week!

In honour of the 95th Bike Week, we thought we'd take the opportunity to ask some of our fantastic physiotherapists about cycling and it's health benefits.

 

Deborah Earl, Deputy Physiotherapy Manager, describes the benefits of cycling

"Cycling for 30 minutes, even at a moderate pace, can burn between 200 and 300 calories on average. It is a great, low weight bearing cardiovascular exercise and is very useful for lower limb strengthening; in particular the quadriceps and hamstrings muscles."

 

Before you dust off your bicycle and get going, there are some safety measures to take

"It is really important to ensue that your bike is set up correctly to avoid injury and so we would always recommend a bike fit session with a specialist. Lynne Sayer, who is based with us in Parkside physio, is trained in bike fit assessments."

 

Just 30 minutes of cycling time has great health benefits. So whether you are commuting to work, school or just enjoying the sunshine after a long day; make this Bike Week the one that gets you on your bike!
