Facelift
The facelift is appropriate to those men and women whose face and neck has begun to lose elasticity. It primarily addresses the 'jowls' which obscure the jaw line below each cheek as well as what is sometimes described as 'turkey neck'. The facelift operation does not have an effect on the entire face.
The operation lifts the lower part of the face and neck restoring the jaw line but it will not eradicate lines on the forehead, around the mouth or the 'crow's feet' around the eyes. Other procedures are available to deal with these problems.
A facelift involves a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay in hospital. The stitches are hidden in the hairline and around the ear. Quite often there is no bruising but if there is, it appears on the cheeks and neck and can be easily disguised with a little make-up.
In the right candidate, results can be excellent. It should not be obvious that the patient has had a facelift; instead they will look young, more cheerful and full of vitality. The effect of a facelift is long-lasting. It does not stop the ageing process but, put simply, the patients will not look as old as they would have done had the surgery not been carried out.
