Our Services

Physiotherapy

Parkside Hospital Physiotherapy Department is well equipped with a rehabilitation gym and outside astro turf area, separate treatment area with five cubicles and a hydrotherapy pool. The physiotherapists are all senior grades with a minimum of five years’ post graduate experience and are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health Professions Council.

We will accept referrals from consultants, GPs, other healthcare professionals, solicitors, employers, as well as self referrals. If you are paying via an insurance company it is advisable to notify them first.

Your first physiotherapy appointment will usually last an hour and consists of a detailed history taking and physical examination, followed by the start of your treatment plan. Your therapist may also prescribe exercises to be done at home. Follow-up appointments are usually 30 minutes in duration and may include treatments such as joint mobilisations, soft tissue massage, myofascial release, acupuncture, strength and conditioning exercises and advice, hydrotherapy and Pilates.

We also have physiotherapists who specialise in women’s health, neurology, oncology (cancer care) and respiratory conditions. Our massage therapists offer sports massage therapy and Swedish massage.

You may be required to undress depending on the location of your injury; for lower limb problems it may be advisable to bring a pair of shorts to your appointments.

Exercise Prescription

Physiotherapists can offer advice and guidance on specific exercises to help clients meet their goals. These goals may range from losing weight, to running the marathon, returning to their previous activities following injury, surgery or ill health or simply wanting to be fitter.

The Physiotherapist will undertake a full assessment of the client and their specific needs. An exercise programme will then be devised, using equipment that the client has available to them and practised with the client. The exercise programme can be supervised by the physiotherapist on a regular basis or  reviewed and progressed as required by the client.
