Pathology Services
Our Pathology laboratory provides a comprehensive service over a broad spectrum of pathology tests and investigations. The department is regulated by a quality system and has achieved Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA). The department participates in all relevant National Quality Assurance schemes and performance in these schemes is available for inspection upon request. Internal quality control is also run on a daily basis and performance monitored.
A Consultant Pathologist oversees each discipline and regular meetings are held to discuss the service we provide so that the needs and requirements of users can be met. We provide a service that covers inpatients and outpatients. Requests are generated by Consultants, users and General Practitioners.
Outpatient services provide an experienced phlebotomy service from 8.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 1.00pm Saturdays.
Services include:
- Blood transfusion
- Clinical chemistry
- Endocrinology/immunology
- Haematology/coagulation
- Microbiology/serology
- Histopathology/cytology
All assays not performed on site (including histology and cytology) are sent to reference centres or hospital departments that meet our accreditation guidelines.
