How we work with our Doctors

In October 2014, the Competition and Markets Authority (the "CMA") published the Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014 (the "Order") following its investigation into the private healthcare industry.  The Order imposed requirements on private hospital operators to disclose certain information in relation to referring clinicians (as defined by the Order) for the benefit of patients.  Full details about the investigation and the Order can be found on the CMA web page https://www.gov.uk/cma-cases/private-healthcare-market-investigation. The information provided by Aspen Healthcare below is required by the Order.

At Aspen Healthcare we work with our doctors to ensure they can focus on high quality patient care. In keeping with one of Aspen Healthcare’s core values ‘Investing in Excellence’ we supply in depth training and development for all of our staff.

Clinician Advisory Services

Aspen works closely with a range of clinical advisors in the following specialities: breast surgery, cancer care, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, dermatology, gastroenterology, general medicine, haematology, hepato-pancreatic-biliary, intensive care, interventional radiology, orthopaedics, obstetrics, respiratory medicine, rheumatology and urology.

Consultant doctors charge Aspen an hourly rate in return for their knowledge and advisory services to support Aspen operationally in maintaining first-rate hospital facilities. These hourly rates are calculated on the amount that those consultants earn in the independent sector for their clinical work.

The majority of doctors who provide advisory services to Aspen also have practicing privileges to treat patients in our facilities, but are under absolutely no obligation to do so. They are free to treat patients at any other private facility as opposed to Aspen’s facilities in compliance with the Bribery Act, GMC guidance and the Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014.

Across the Aspen Group clinical advisers share best practice. At Parkside Hospital the lead clinical advisers are:

  • Dr. Simon Stern
  • Dr. Zaid Abboudi
  • Dr. Berge Azadian
  • Wimbledon Clinics
