Shoulder & Elbow Problems

The shoulders and elbows are perhaps the two most flexible joints in our bodies. Because of their dexterity and range of movement, they are also arguably the most at risk from pains, strains and inflammation. A shoulder or elbow condition can make even the simplest, everyday activities painful and difficult. You might find it sore when you reach behind you, or above your head. You might even notice stiffness and swelling, or feel back pain.

Shoulder and elbow conditions can be caused in many ways. Over-stretching tissues can cause an elbow sprain, for example, as can repetitive actions like golf or tennis. Arthritis can also play a major part.

If this sounds familiar, then we can help you. We offer comprehensive, fast and specialist diagnosis of your condition, from frozen shoulders to tennis elbows. Our highly trained orthopaedic specialists, orthopaedic nurse specialists and shoulder and elbow surgeons are renowned in their area of expertise. They can offer reassurance, peace of mind and support throughout diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.

The services available include rapid, point-of-care diagnostic imaging or screening of your shoulder and elbow to support an early diagnosis. This may include using the very latest MRI scanning facilities, ultrasound or conventional X-rays.

Once a diagnosis has been made, our orthopaedic specialists can suggest any follow-up treatment you may need. These could include rotator cuff surgery, a shoulder replacement, subacromial decompression (a surgical procedure to repair tendon damage in the upper shoulder) or a variety of elbow surgeries such as arthroscopic surgery, corrective surgery for possible joint deformity, joint fusion and elbow replacement procedures.

Our team also works closely with our musculoskeletal physiotherapists to help you get back to full fitness as quickly as possible.

At Parkside Hospital we can treat all manner of shoulder and elbow problems and injuries. So if you cannot find what you are looking for, then please give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you.
