A summary of some of the more routinely undertaken General Surgery procedures is shown below:

Colorectal surgery

Colorectal conditions affect the bowel, colon, pelvis and rectum and those that may require surgery include colorectal cancers and external haemorrhoids and fissures.

Endoscopy

An endoscopy is one of the methods we use to diagnose internal conditions. A small flexible tube is inserted under sedation in order to investigate symptoms. The types of endoscopy most routinely undertaken include sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and gastroscopy.

Gallstones

Gallstones develop from small deposits of cholesterol that form in the gall bladder. In the majority of cases, they do not cause any symptoms or issues. Should a gallstone become trapped or inflamed, it will need to be surgically removed.

Gastrointestinal Surgery

Gastrointestinal conditions that require surgery include liver disease, pancreatic and biliary disorders or acid reflux.

Genital reconstructive surgery

Please contact us if you wish to discuss genital reconstructive surgery in a confidential environment.

Hernias

A hernia occurs as a result of a weakness in muscle or tissue and can be repaired laparoscopically (through “key hole” surgery). Small incisions will be made to access and repair organs, tissue and muscle.

Vascular surgery

The treatment of varicose veins and thread veins, carotid artery disease and aortic aneurysms.

Weight loss surgery

We offer a range of weight loss solutions including gastric bands, bypasses and sleeves and the new non-surgical Obalon and Allurion gastric balloons. Significant weight loss can also leave excess skin that can be removed through body contouring surgery. The Weight Loss Team practising at Parkside Hospital includes a specialist Consultant Bariatric Surgeon, a Dietician and a Counsellor.
