What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a form of treatment which reduces the effects of gravity on the body. Water can be used to assist movement if pain is limiting activity or as resistance for strengthening.

Our hydrotherapy pool is heated to a comfortable 35° C which is an ideal environment for painful joints.

You will be assessed by a therapist to ensure suitability for hydrotherapy and the therapist will be with you in the water for each 30 minute session.

Hydrotherapy is a form of physiotherapy which offers the benefit of gravity-free exercise against the resistance of water. This makes it an excellent medium for rehabilitation after injury or surgery. It also provides an ideal exercise environment for patients with arthritic joints. The heated pool at Parkside Hospital has two varied-depth zones and is equipped with a mechanical hoist to ensure safe, easy access for patients with restricted mobility. For this treatment, you may refer yourself or be referred by your GP. A Chartered Physiotherapist will then assess you and design an individual exercise programme.
