Eyelid reduction, or blepharoplasty of the upper, lower or both eyelids removes excess skin and protruding fat to produce a more alert appearance. The procedure normally requires a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay in hospital. The incision on the upper eyelid is made in the skin crease whilst the incision on the lower eyelid can either be just under the eyelashes or, in some cases, just inside the eylid. Swelling takes about a week to subside and the majority of bruising is gone in around two weeks. A pair of dark glasses can be of great benefit in this period. Scarring will will usually be pink in the first few weeks but will eventually become almost invisible and can usually be disguised with make up for two or three weeks after your operation.
